The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at The Game Awards — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

Each time a significant prize-giving event nears, one notices a demand for the addition additional classifications to recognize unsung work and satisfy the spirits of fans dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague has already made for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. The same goes for tabletop games, representing someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front because like all blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request stands as crucial and significant. This is the request: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and inevitably start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that film award organizations don’t do it. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise for the industry of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards offer these award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these classifications actually cover many game types, allowing placement for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Consider three of this year’s best games, each quite distinct: structural challenges of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. Which classification works between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers released every year lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated in any category in 2014
  • A different innovative game received no nominations that year
  • Popular arranging title got ignored that year
  • Only a few puzzle games barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're modest productions, but the art behind logic titles is of massive significance. Well-known matching games rank among most engaged experiences globally maintaining this status for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience competes with popular creative games claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, while interacting across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. One could readily select a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these include experiences without proper classification at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers function at the challenging frontier of video game design, developing some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait decades.
